Based on extensive experience in the cultivation of primary cells from multiple human and animal tissues, ProBioGen possesses broad knowledge in approaches for the immortalisation of cells.
Applying this knowledge and the understanding of the requirements in large scale fermentation, ProBioGen designs new immortalised cell lines from primary tissue sources to address specific and individual customer needs.
For example, designer cell lines overcome limitations in passage number, serum requirements and attachment dependence which are typical of primary cells that are currently used in vaccine manufacturing. These new cell lines also eliminate the need for repeated safety testing for each new batch of primary tissue (as in the use of chicken embryonic fibroblast).
Designer cell lines have unique features that make them highly attractive for the manufacturing of therapeutic products. Some of these features include:
- Superior protein yields through selection, which can exceed those reached by standard cell lines such as CHO or NS0.
- Comparable behaviour to the tissues they originate from, making them the ideal expression system for proteins that are expressed in these tissues in vivo.
- Genuine human post-translational modifications in cell lines derived from human tissues.
