Avian Cell Line
Embryonated chicken eggs and chicken embryonic fibroblasts have been and still are one of the main substrates for the manufacture of human and animal vaccines. They have been chosen because of their ability to support the replication of a wide range of viruses.
In collaboration with the Impfstoffwerk Dessau-Tornau (IDT), ProBioGen is developing avian cell lines free of retrovirus activity which will address limitations in scalability and serum dependency. The cell lines support replication of a number of vaccine-relevant viruses, including Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) with superior titres.
